Charles Spencer, Earl Spencer, is set to publish a book about his sister Diana in September. The book, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, marks the first time that Earl Spencer has spoken openly and at length about his sister.

The book will recount the story of Diana's life and the week of her death. It will be released on 22 September in the UK. According to the book's publisher, Penguin imprint Michael Joseph, the book contains "many revelations that will draw considerable attention".

Charles Spencer stated that he has been inundated with requests for interviews about his sister, and this has convinced him to write down his own thoughts and memories. He aims to tell the truth about Diana from her brother's perspective, just as he attempted to do when speaking at her funeral.

Spencer delivered his sister's eulogy at Westminster Abbey in September 1997, after her death on 31 August. He hopes that his book will be of interest to those who still cherish the memory of Diana when she was alive.

Daniel Bunyard, publishing director at Penguin Michael Joseph, described the book as "a fitting tribute to the beloved woman who was Princess Diana". Spencer stated that he would be delighted if those too young to remember Diana in her heyday feel, after reading this, that they "get" who she really was: a one-off, dynamic character, full of love, charisma and self-doubt, who gave life a hell of a go, and left the world a far better place, despite exiting the stage while still so young.

The book aims to provide a positive portrayal of Diana, as Spencer spoke on her behalf and in an openly positive way when delivering her eulogy at Westminster Abbey.
