Kathryn Stockett's novel 'The Calamity Club' is the top-selling fiction title in independent bookstores for the week ending August 30, 2026. The data, compiled by The Independent Publishers Caucus from American Booksellers Association sales, shows a list dominated by literary fiction and new translations.
Emily Wilson's celebrated translation of Homer's 'The Odyssey' for W.W. Norton holds the number two position. Jacqueline Harpman's 'I Who Have Never Known Men,' published by Transit Books, takes third place. The top five is completed by Sheila Masterson's 'The Poison Daughter' from Slowburn and Douglas Stuart's 'John of John' from Grove Press.
Chart Highlights and Notable Appearances
Lily King appears twice in the top twenty with 'Heart the Lover' at number six and the earlier novel 'Writers & Lovers' at eighteen, both from Grove Press.
